Corrections
Industry reporting is judged on the record it leaves. Errors in that record are repaired where they occurred and dated.
-
Material errors
Ownership, financing, executive moves, deal terms, regulatory status and figures drawn from filings are corrected whenever a document or a named source shows they were wrong. The correction identifies the document.
-
Updates that are not corrections
A deal that closes, a rule that takes effect or a number that is restated later is an update, not a correction. Updates are dated and appended; the original reporting stays as written.
-
Anonymous sourcing
If information attributed to a source proves wrong, the correction says so plainly. We do not identify the source, and we do not quietly remove the passage.
