Quality First Calls Its New Mask Line the Brand's Highest Peak. It Said That Twice Before.

Quality First's press release for its new Derma Laser PRO masks calls the line the brand's highest peak in history, a claim its own footnote says is measured only against its earlier products. It is at least the third time since November 2023 that the company has given a new Derma Laser launch that same superlative, each one self-assessed rather than benchmarked against a rival or an outside standard.

Quality First's press release for Derma Laser PRO, a three-mask line going into national drugstore and variety-store distribution on September 24, calls the launch the brand's "highest peak in its history" (saikoho, 最高峰). A footnote attached to that phrase supplies the benchmark: "within Quality First." The comparison is to the company's own past products, not to a competitor's line or an outside standard.

That would be a minor detail except Quality First has used the identical superlative, in the identical self-referential form, at least twice before in under three years.

Three "highest peaks" since 2023

  • In November 2023, the company launched Derma Laser Specter, which Japanese trade outlet WWD Japan reported at the time as the brand's series highest peak and ultimate skincare, built around raised concentrations of vitamin C, 10 percent niacinamide, and retinol.
  • In July 2024, a press release for Derma Laser EX Super Retinol plus Hydroquinone Mask, sold through Aeon stores, again called the product the series highest peak, with a footnote reading "as Quality First assesses it," the same internal-comparison caveat now attached to Derma Laser PRO.
  • In August 2026, Derma Laser PRO repeats the claim, footnoted the same way.

The PRO designation is not new to the brand either. Cosme.net's listing dates a Derma Laser Vision Pad PRO, an eye-area exfoliating pad, to June 27, 2025, more than a year before PRO reappeared as the name for this month's masks.

None of this makes the products interchangeable. Derma Laser PRO's press materials describe ingredient-carrying microcapsules and a newly developed three-layer sheet, a construction the release calls the first sheet mask of its kind sold in Japan, a claim also footnoted as the company's own research as of July 2026, not an independent test. What the pattern shows is how the claim functions: each new entry resets the ceiling. Highest peak describes a launch's position in Quality First's own catalog at the moment of release, not its position against rivals or against the brand's next release.

What the reader can and cannot conclude

Quality First, a Tokyo company founded in 2012, has built its Derma Laser business on frequent line turnover: eye-area sheets, spot-treatment masks with hydroquinone, high-concentration serum lines, and now a three-product PRO tier, each pitched as a step beyond what preceded it. That cadence is a legitimate way to keep a mass-market sheet mask brand current in fast-moving retail categories like Loft and Don Quixote. It does not, on the evidence in the company's own footnotes, mean any single launch has been independently verified as superior to the others, or to competitors' products. Readers evaluating highest peak language from any cosmetics brand should look for the footnote before the claim.
